Auto repair in the United States is split between independent shops, dealership service departments and national chains. Independents handle most routine work (oil changes, brakes, tune-ups, check-engine diagnostics) at lower labor rates and often specialize in one make or in imports; dealers keep factory tools, software and warranty authority; chains sell speed and standard pricing on maintenance items. Most shops charge a diagnostic fee, credited toward the repair if you go ahead, and quote parts and labor separately. Certification matters: look for ASE-certified technicians and, in many states, a state repair license posted at the counter. Written estimates are required by law in most states before work begins, and you are entitled to your old parts if you ask.

Wow these guys are really great. Chris and Henry helped me out so so much with my 2011 jeep grand Cherokee and today I’m getting solid help and service with a tire rotation and plugging a nail in my tire. Henry took time to adjust my battery terminal and engine air filter - even topped off my coolant . Super quick to help me with my questions and super patient. I’m very grateful to have found this place. Thank you guys so much ! :)

Great communication and service!! I brought our older car in to decide whether it was time to keep it or donate it and Chris and his team gave it a quick yet very thorough inspection and made the decision a much clearer choice. Thanks Chris and Legacy. Highly recommend!!

Being new to Boulder, I went to Legacy Automotive based on a recommendation from an acquaintance. I was stunned by: A $175 charge for First Hour of Diagnostic Testing on a power steering issue that I had specifically described when I brought the car in. The inspection report recommended several repairs that seemed questionable. For example, it stated that the left and right brake lamps were inoperative and should be replaced. However, on my Nissan, those lights only illuminate when the headlights are on; the center brake light functions normally at all times. The quote also included more than $200 for a DOT 4 brake fluid flush and more than $300 for a power steering flush. Comparable services are available elsewhere for significantly less. I brought my vehicle here for a second opinion on the steering issue just following a recommendation. Their estimate was approximately $500 higher than the quote I had already received from another shop, even before accounting for the additional items mentioned above. LOOK ELSEWHERE SERIOUSLY.

I used to take fleet vehicles to Legacy and after interacting with them in that capacity I immediately made them my personal mechanic as well. The staff, both mechanics and office administration, are easy to work with, fun to talk to and transparent about the vehicle maintenance being performed. They're fairly priced, efficient and skilled as well. I recommend Legacy to anyone I can.
